Turn one of your favorite popsicles into Bomb Pop Jello Shots! They’re the perfect treat for Memorial Day or 4th of July parties!

Popsicles are a nostalgic summer treat, and these Bomb Pop Jello Shots transform that childhood favorite into a fun, adult-only party bite. They are ideal for Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, backyard barbecues, or any festive summer gathering where you want colorful, themed treats. The layered red, white, and blue presentation captures the pop aesthetic while delivering a boozy, jiggly dessert that’s easy to make ahead and serve cold.
I adapted the classic Bomb Pop idea to work well in jello shot form. Rather than trying to reproduce every popsicle flavor exactly, I chose a combination that sets reliably and tastes great: cherry (red), a creamy coconut layer (white), and blue curaçao for the blue layer. Rum adds a balanced boozy note that pairs nicely with the sweet layers. These shots travel well to parties and are crowd-pleasers—if you want variations, see the tips below.

For a festive presentation, use food-grade silicone molds shaped like rounded popsicles or stars. Silicone makes it easy to unmold the shots cleanly; if you prefer disposable options, small plastic ramekins or shot cups work as well. For classic Bomb Pop coloring, layer the blue first, then white, then red; if you use molds that are inverted during serving, layer red on the bottom so the red color is on top when plated.

Prep Time: 2 hrs 3 mins · Cook Time: 2 mins · Total Time: 2 hrs 5 mins
Servings: 18 jello shots · Calories: 78 kcal (approx.)
Ingredients
- 3 envelopes unflavored gelatin (about 3 tablespoons)
- 3/4 cup cold water
- 1 1/2 cups hot water
- 3/4 cups granulated sugar
- 3/4 cups silver rum (I used Bacardi)
Red layer
- 3 tablespoons grenadine
White layer
- 2 tablespoons cream of coconut (Coco Real or similar)
Blue layer
- 2 tablespoons blue curaçao
Instructions
- Pour the gelatin powder into a medium mixing bowl. Add the cold water and stir to combine. Let sit 2–3 minutes, or until the gelatin has absorbed the water.
- Whisk in the hot water until the gelatin dissolves. Stir in the sugar until dissolved. Add the rum and mix well to create a neutral jello base.
- Divide the jello base evenly into three bowls (a little over 1 cup of liquid per bowl).
- To the first bowl add the grenadine and stir to combine for the red layer.
- To the second bowl add the cream of coconut and stir until combined for the white layer.
- To the third bowl add the blue curaçao and stir to combine for the blue layer.
- Pour 1 1/2 tablespoons of the red jello mixture into the bottom of each of 18 two-ounce silicone molds. Refrigerate for 30 minutes, or until the surface is set and slightly firm.
- Remove from fridge and carefully pour 1 1/2 tablespoons of the white jello into each mold. Return to fridge and let set for about 20 minutes.
- Pour 1 1/2 tablespoons of the blue jello into each mold. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour to ensure the jello is fully set.
- Cover the molds and keep refrigerated until ready to serve. If using a silicone mold, dip the bottom in warm water for 10–20 seconds to loosen each shot, then invert to release. If using plastic cups, serve directly in the cup.
Notes
If you use plastic ramekins or disposable shot cups, place them on a baking sheet or large platter to move them in and out of the refrigerator easily. For a classic Bomb Pop color sequence, pour blue first, then white, and finish with red on top if you are serving the shots upright. When using molds that are inverted for serving, layer red first so the red color appears on top when plated.
Tips and Variations
- Substitute vodka or tequila for rum if you prefer a different spirit—adjust the flavoring amount for balance.
- To reduce sweetness, lower the sugar slightly or use a less sweet liqueur in the blue layer.
- Star-shaped or novelty silicone molds add a festive touch for holiday parties.
- Make these ahead of time and keep covered in the refrigerator for up to 48 hours for the best texture and flavor.
