Niños Hotel Meloc Cusco Review for Peru Travelers

We recently returned from Peru, and one of the highlights of our trip was our stay at Ninos Hotel Meloc in Cusco. Set on Meloc Street, about an eight-minute walk from the Main Square, this charming hotel offers much more than a comfortable place to sleep. It is warm, welcoming, beautifully decorated, and connected to a meaningful mission that supports local children.

From the moment we arrived, it felt like the right choice for our family stay in Cusco. The atmosphere was calm and inviting, the staff greeted us with genuine kindness, and the entire property had a personal touch that made it stand out from many other hotels.

Thanks to the friendly staff, cozy rooms, thoughtful amenities, and peaceful courtyard, Niños Hotel Meloc quickly became one of my favorite hotels we have stayed in. We enjoyed it so much that, on our final day in Cusco, we decided to extend our stay for three more nights instead of returning to Lima.

The Mission

One of the most memorable parts of staying at Niños Hotel Meloc is knowing that your visit supports a larger purpose. The hotel is connected to the Niños Unidos Peruanos Foundation, which helps provide meals, medical and dental care, education, and a safe space for more than 600 underprivileged children in Cusco and nearby villages.

That mission gives the hotel a special feeling. It is not just a place designed for travelers; it is also part of a community effort that directly benefits local families and children.

Check In

Niños Hotel Meloc is located on a busy street in Cusco, so our driver unloaded our luggage quickly when we arrived. Once inside, the check-in process was smooth and easy. The staff helped us right away and made us feel comfortable after our journey.

Because Cusco sits at high altitude, the hotel offers guests complimentary coca leaves, a thoughtful detail for travelers adjusting to the elevation. We appreciated having them available as soon as we arrived.

The lobby area also has a gift shop with locally made Peruvian handicrafts, including hand-painted mugs, jewelry, and alpaca garments. Purchases help support the foundation and provide fair wages to artisans, making it a meaningful place to buy souvenirs from Cusco.

The hotel itself is beautifully designed with rustic décor, colorful details, and vibrant murals throughout the property. The courtyard is full of greenery and offers a quiet place to relax away from the energy of the city streets.

Room options vary from single rooms with shared bathrooms to larger accommodations for families or groups, making it a flexible choice for solo travelers, couples, and families visiting Cusco.

The Room

Niños Hotel Meloc does not feel like a standard hotel. Instead of simple room numbers, each room is named after a child Jolanda, the founder, has adopted over the years. This personal detail adds warmth and character to the entire experience.

The property is decorated with care, from the hand-painted murals to the candles lit throughout the hotel each evening. These small touches create a cozy, intimate atmosphere that feels especially comforting after a long day of exploring Cusco.

Our room, Wilbert, was on the second floor overlooking the courtyard. It had a full-size bed and two twin beds, which worked well for our family of four. The room was clean, comfortable, and well maintained, with everything we needed for a relaxing stay.

Every time we returned from sightseeing, the room had been cleaned beautifully. Housekeeping was consistently attentive, which made our stay even more comfortable.

There are no elevators, so guests should be prepared to carry luggage upstairs. Since the hotel is only two stories, it was manageable for us, but it is something to keep in mind when packing.

The hotel also offers luggage storage, which is especially helpful if you are heading to Machu Picchu and want to leave extra bags behind while traveling lighter.

The Location

The location is excellent for travelers who want to explore Cusco’s historic center on foot. From the hotel, you are close to major sights, local markets, restaurants, cafés, and cultural experiences.

Plaza de Armas, the heart of Cusco, is about a ten-minute walk away. The square is surrounded by beautiful Spanish colonial architecture, lively cafés, and landmarks such as Cusco Cathedral and the Church of the Society of Jesus. It is a wonderful place to sit, people-watch, listen to street musicians, and enjoy the energy of the city.

If you are planning a visit to Machu Picchu, Niños Hotel Meloc is also conveniently close to San Pedro Train Station, where travelers can catch a train to Aguas Calientes.

Even with its central location, the hotel still feels like a calm and quiet retreat from the busy streets of Cusco.

Dining at Niños Hotel Meloc

Breakfast is not included in the room rate, but the hotel offers a great selection of affordable breakfast options. You can enjoy your meal in the dining room, outside in the courtyard, or on the balcony if you are staying upstairs.

One of our favorite choices was the Organic Andean breakfast, which included fresh fruits such as papaya and mango, along with banana, pancakes, bread, coffee, and tea. It was a simple, fresh, and satisfying way to begin the day.

For lunch and dinner, the hotel restaurant serves meals prepared with fresh, high-quality ingredients from local markets. My personal favorite was the beef stew with rice, and every soup we tried was excellent.

The desserts were simple but memorable, made with local fruits, cocoa, aromatic plants, and just the right amount of sweetness. They tasted homemade in the best possible way.

A Cozy Courtyard

The hotel’s courtyard is a peaceful escape, with plants, a water fountain, comfortable seating areas, and a relaxing atmosphere. It quickly became one of our favorite places to spend time at the hotel.

A thoughtful detail for families was the kids’ play area, which included a small tea set and kitchen toys. It kept our children entertained while we enjoyed our meals nearby.

Whether we were sipping tea in the morning or winding down in the evening, the courtyard was the perfect place to relax.

Spa Services

One unexpected highlight of our stay was the hotel’s affordable spa services. After long days of walking around Cusco, being able to book a massage right at the hotel was a wonderful treat.

A one-hour body massage costs $30, and the hotel also offers foot reflexology, manicures, and pedicures at reasonable prices.
